COMING SOON: ANALYSIS OF THE DISCREPANCIES IN RON HOLMES'S STATEMENTS ABOUT TED BUNDY

                            PREVIEW

I have used two sources for comparison purposes, excerpting from each article the passages pertaining to Bundy's alleged statements to Dr. Ronald M. Holmes, author and criminal justice professor at the University of Louisville, about the the 1961 unsolved disappearance of eight-year-old Ann Marie Burr from Tacoma, WA.
First, The Daily Sentinel (Grand Junction, CO) piece, published Thursday May 7, 1987; this article was picked up by the Associated Press and ran in several publications around the U.S. Dr. Holmes was in Colorado on Wednesday May 6, 1987, giving a lecture at the Boulder County Sheriff's Department Homicide Investigation Seminar and shared his experience interviewing Bundy on death row at Raiford Prison, Starke, Florida in 1985. The following passages were derived from information in Holmes's lecture:

During one of the interviews, Holmes asked Bundy if "the person he was talking about [from the third person point of view] murdered for the first time in February 1974."
Bundy told Holmes "the person" killed and raped a young girl when he was 11 1/2 years old - roughly in 1957 - and threw the body in a ditch in front of her house in Washington state. That girl's body has never been found.

Second is a The News Tribune (Tacoma, WA) piece, published on Saturday May 9, 1987. Dr. Holmes was interviewed on Friday May 8, 1987, via telephone by The Tribune:

During the interviews, Holmes said, Bundy talked of "a person" involved in a series of murders in Washington near Lake Sammamish State Park.
"I then asked him if it would be reasonable to assume that this 'other person' may have had earlier victims," Holmes said.
"He said, 'Well this other person we're talking about may have started much earlier.[' "]
Holmes asked, "How early?"
At age 14 or 15, Bundy told Holmes.
"The first victim of this other person could have been an 8 or 9-year-old girl," Holmes said Bundy told him.

Bundy said this "other person" could have gained access to a home like the Burr's [sic] through an unlatched window, Holmes said.
After luring the child from the house, the other person took the child to a nearby orchard and strangled her and then probably raped her, Holmes said Bundy told him.

After the killing, Bundy allegedly said, the other person would have found it easy to dispose of the body in a nearby ditch, Holmes said.
